This is a huge grouping that came from a US pilot who flew fighters and commanded the 357th Fighter Squadron in World War II, was shot down over Germany, spent time in a POW camp, escaped three times before finally gaining his freedom and went on to have a distinguished career in the Air Force. There are over 145 pounds of items in this grouping including seemingly every one of his military records, several photo albums and a large stack of loose photos (many 8x10's), books, plaques and certificates, newspaper clippings, his Silver Star and other engraved medals, various items of flight gear, two of his uniforms with embroidered insignia and sewn on ribbons and more. There are several rolls of 16mm movie film includng WWII "gun camera" films. The centerpiece of this grouping is his YMCA Wartime Log: these were blank books issued to WWII POW's by the International YMCA. They were used a diaries and journals and this one is rich in detail. This officer was one of the senior American POW's in the West Compound of Stalag Luft III and was a Lt. Col. and fighter squadron commander at the time he was shot down, which adds to the historical importance of his Wartime Log.
