This listing is for several items related to the USS Arizona (as of Jan 25th I am continuing to scan items and add them to this, so check back daily for updates). There is a 1930's photo album, letters, 1986 photos of admiral Samuel Glenn Fuqua, an Arizona survivor who won the Medal of Honor, seven issues of the Arizona's At Em Arizona newsletter and more.

The two key items are a late 1930's photo album with about 140 photos, many of them identified by name (some of the photos show an Arizona crewman who was killed on December 7, 1941) and a letter written on October 10, 1941, by another crewman who was killed in the attack on the Arizona to Pearl Harbor. Lyle Carl Curtis had written the letter to Herbert "Gem" Zobel, a sailor had previously been aboard the Arizona. He addressed to "James Zobel," apparently having decided that Gem sounded like "Jim." In the letter Curtis talks about getting out of the Navy and ask Zobel's help in getting a job in San Diego. I have transcribed the letter and posted large images here: http://homepage.mac.com/bobhudsoncom/USS_Arizona/PhotoAlbum62.html - the letter is profane and at some point was torn in half. Perhaps Zobel was upset at Curtis or maybe he was frustrated when he got news of Curtis' death. Here's the outside of the envelope and first page (again, click the above link for full details):

The photo album was put together by Arizona crewman Peter Tinacci who sent them to Zobel in 1985 (there is a letter from Tinacci which says "I hope you will enjoy the pictures." Tinacci was in the Arizona's 4th Division, one of the deck divisions. I scanned some 67 pages from the album and you can see all of them here (there are about 20 pages of photo alubm per web page when you go to that link). Besides photos, the album was signed by several other division members. Here is the painted leather cover and a few examples of pages, but again click the link to see it all:

This is a composite including a brief bio I found online about this sailor, Frank Peter Bernard:

The album begins with several 1930's vintage Hawaiian postcards and hulu girl photos:

Much of the album is liberty photos:

Again to see all of the photo pages, visit http://homepage.mac.com/bobhudsoncom/USS_Arizona/ and click the links at the top of that page to see them all.

One more here: a 4th Division photo

There are seven issues of the Arizona's onboard newsletter At Em Arizona from 1938 and 1939. You can see them all here: http://homepage.mac.com/bobhudsoncom/USS_Arizona/PhotoAlbum65.html

These are 3.5 inch by 4.5 inch photos of the late Sam G. Fuqua who was awarded the Medal of Honor for his actions aboard the USS Arizona on Dec. 7,1941. He retired as a Rear Admiral. These photos were taken in 1986 when he was 87 years oldand show Adm. Fuqua, his wife Edna and Jim and Betty Broom: Jim was President of the Arizona Reunion Association:
